Eagleville Hospital Physician Receives
Distinguished Medical Professional Award
Award recognizes a medical professional who exemplifies a spirit of caring, compassion,
and commitment to those suffering from alcoholism or drug dependency
EAGLEVILLE, PA – Eagleville Hospital announced that its Director of Medical Services, and Norristown resident, Thurman Booker, D.O., received the Caron Foundation’s distinguished Medical Professional Award June 1 at its annual Community Awards Breakfast at the Hyatt Regency in Philadelphia.
“Dr. Booker’s humane and compassionate approach to
providing care for the underprivileged and undeserved makes
him an outstanding teacher and role model for thousands of
clinicians who have trained and worked at Eagleville,” said
Eagleville Hospital’s Acting Chief Executive Officer
Maureen King Pollock. “With his commitment and
dedication, he continues to inspire admiration and respect
from patients, physicians, nurses, therapists and students at
Eagleville, and his outstanding contributions to the drug and
alcohol treatment field are worthy of special recognition.”
Dr. Booker is the Director of Medical Services at Eagleville Hospital. He was hired in 1966 when Eagleville converted from a tuberculosis hospital to a hospital providing care for addicted individuals. Dr. Booker and other medical professionals were pioneers in the medical community at a time when few physicians were interested in treating alcoholics and drug addicts.
The Caron Foundation’s Medical Professional Award is given to individuals who have given unselfishly of themselves to enhance drug and alcohol addiction treatment, awareness,
prevention or education, either at their place of employment or in the community. It recognizes outstanding individual efforts in the ongoing battle against addiction to alcohol and drugs, either as part of their job responsibility or as a personal commitment.
Eagleville Hospital, and its outpatient affiliate, Riverside Care, Inc., are pioneers in the addiction treatment field, helping men and women get into recovery for over 40 years. Recognized for quality patient care, Eagleville Hospital is a regional leader in the treatment, prevention and research related to substance abuse, co-occurring disorders, and other behavioral health problems.
